We spend the morning once again in the Exodus truck heading south to Pucon. We make a quick stop along the way to buy some food and then drive non-stop to Pucon. We decide to skip lunch along the way so that we can get there. We arrive shortly before 3 PM and set up camp while the cook group prepares a late lunch. After lunch we spend some time wandering around the town.
It is a bit like a mini-Jackson Hole. It is located on a lake in the shadows of many mountains, including the active, smoking Volcan Villarrica (buying real estate here can be a bit risky). he town caters to tourism - in particular out door activities, including boating, fishing, climbing, horseback riding and white water rafting. The town consists of many faux Alpine-style buildings. It is pleasant, but a bit touristy.
We head down to the beach and have a look around. It is Sunday and the holidays so it is packed. The streets have many bikini and Speedo clad people wandering around them. There are many cafes, bakeries and ice cream parlors to choose from. After we quickly check our emails, we head back to the campsite.
After we spend some time relaxing at the campsite, we have to head back into town to go and get our boots for our climb of the volcano tomorrow. We have some troubles finding the right size, but they promise they will have the boots there ready for us tomorrow. Back at the campsite we shower, organise our stuff and just relax before dinner. Dinner is a bit late at 10 PM so we go to bed shortly after dinner as we have an early start tomorrow morning.
